Tasting note: This is a very good vintage with quality underlined by cabernets sauvignons of exceptional nobility. This wine presents a very deep, dark red colour. The "bouquet” reveals aromas of complex fruits and hints of ripe blackcurrant. The attack on the palate is precise, very dense, and follows with an exceptional velvety richness. The tannins are suave and elegant. It shows a beautiful complexity, combining smoothness and purity. A very well balanced wine with a spectacular length. In one word, a Grand Puy Lacoste with the promise of a bright future!
Food pairing: Will do well with any red meats grilled, cheese...
Grape varieties: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon - 18% Merlot - 2% Cabernet Franc (specific to this vintage)
Vinification: A long period of maceration (about 3 weeks)
Maturing: In French oak barrels (70% new barrels each vintage) for between 16 to 18 months depending on the vintage.
Weather conditions: An unusual climate with April and May exceptionally hot and dry. June, July and August are more “oceanic” with an alternative of very hot and rainy weather. September is moderate like in the last years

One of the oldest estates in the Médoc.
The history of Grand-Puy-Lacoste is fascinating in many ways. It is a family saga going back to the 16th century.
The name Grand-Puy, already mentioned in documents from the Middle Ages, comes from the ancient term "puy” which means "hillock, small height”. True to its name, the vineyard sits on outcrops with a terroir similar to that of the Médoc's first growths. From Since the 16th century the property remained attached to a single family from generation to generation, in a direct line through marriage until 1920, before connecting with another family in 1978—the Borie.
François-Xavier Borie has guided Grand-Puy-Lacoste's fortunes, working to restore its glory and remain faithful to its spirit.
François-Xavier Borie has directed the estate since its acquisition in 1978, benefitting greatly from the experience of working beside his father. As determined, demanding and diligent as Jean-Eugène, François-Xavier has raised Grand-Puy-Lacoste to the level of a "great Pauillac” and ensures that it maintains that status.
