Name: Sancerre Red - Domaine des Grandes Perrières
Red Sancerre is a unique and rare wine, accounting for only 10–20% of the total production in the famous Loire Valley region. While the area is globally revered for Sauvignon Blanc, its red wines—made exclusively from Pinot Noir—are a hidden gem known for their elegance, minerality, and distinct "Loire" character, different from Burgundian styles.
- Historical Significance: Before the 19th-century phylloxera crisis, Sancerre was90% red, making modern, high-quality production a return to its roots.
- Distinct Terroir: These wines are grown on unique Kimmeridgian limestone and flint (silex) soils, often resulting in a smoky, mineral-driven, and slightly "stemmy" or herbal profile.
- Elegant Profile: They are generally light to medium-bodied, focusing on vibrant red fruit (cherry, raspberry, currant) rather than heavy oak or alcohol.
- Climate Change Impact: Warmer seasons have allowed these Pinot Noir grapes to ripen better, transforming the style from sometimes lean to having "Burgundy-level ripeness"
- Pairing: Excellent with food, pairing well with grilled salmon, duck confit, cheese or charcuterie.
- Service: Best served slightly chilled (around 12C) to enhance its fresh, fruity characteristics.

- Jérôme & Frédérique Gueneau created the Domaine des Grandes Perrières in 1993. From very small beginnings, the gradually grew to meet a growing demand. It is now a little bit more than 10 ha (24 acres).
The quality of the wine is recognized by many restaurants and it is served at the table of the French prime minister.
